What
2010 is a poignant year in Oman; His Majesty the Sultan celebrates 40 years on the throne, and it is 100
years since the famous desert explorer Wilfred Thesiger was born. To celebrate both of these events, and long standing ties between Oman
and UK, a team of eight girls will attempt a 100 km journey in the Northern Empty
Quarter desert.
The journey will be on foot, supported by camel and 4x4. The team will be made up of four Omani girls, and four girls from UK, aged 17-24 years old. The target will be to promote cultural understanding, reach the summit of Oman's third highest dune, and raise the Oman and UK flags on the summit. Patrons of the journey are the Oman's Ambassador in London, and
the UK's Ambassador in Oman.
Outward Bound Oman is run by Mark Evans, YE with BSES in 1979, Chief Leader of Svalbard Spring 1992 and 1997, and Arctic Year 2001-2002.
When
The journey will take place between January 8th and 17th 2011.
