Fundraising

Getting the money together to take part in an expedition is a big challenge but it's entirely possible, thousands before you have managed it and if they can do it then so can you!  We have lots of help at hand, including the fundraising written guides below, our own bursary funding and our mentoring programme which pairs you up with a previous BSES member who can give you one to one advice.

Mentoring Scheme

Where possible, we will try to match you up with a mentor who will help you reach your target by offering advice and guidance. Your mentor will most likely be a previous Young Explorer with oodles of fundraising experience. You will have to do the work, but your mentor will help you convert your hard work in money! The mentor application from is available for download in your login area after you have successfully applied for your expedition.

BSES Bursary

BSES have a limited amount of bursary money available each year. A maximum of £500 may be awarded to Young Explorers who are struggling to fundraise despite demonstrating a committed programme of fundraising activities. Further details and application forms can be downloaded below and must be submitted before the advertised deadlines.

Host a Fundraising Workshop

We would be delighted to hold a fundraising workshop in your area. The aim of the workshop will be to give you some good fundraising advice but also for you to share ideas and experiences with other Young Explorers. Workshops take 1.5 hours with a ten minute break in th middle. Parents, teachers, mentors and previous YEs are all welcome to attend. If you want to organise a workshop you will need to do the following things:

1. Find at least 2 other YEs in your area who want to participate in the workshop*
2. Find a venue (school, college, university etc)
3. Suggest a date within the week (Mon-Fri) between 10am and 7pm
4. Email your coordinator wit the details and wait for a reply

*If you do not know any other YEs in your area please get in touch with your coordinator.

External Grants

Lots of trusts and grant making bodies exist throughout the UK with the purpose of financially supporting young people participating on overseas expeditions. If you live outside of the UK we would advise that you contact the BSES office for advice.
