What People Say
About BSES:

It has been an honour to be entrusted with leadership of a BSES expedition and I am thankful to all members of the expedition for their hard work to make the expedition a success.
Pete Allison - Chief Leader

Being a Young Leader has given me the chance to become confident leading in an outdoor environment, and has inspired me to continue to search for opportunities to continue doing so.
Stephen Brooks - Young Leader

Looking back over the past three years of my involvement with the BSES Leadership Development Programme, I have been fortunate enough to meet a variety of young people, keen on leading others in the outdoors. It is only by leading others in a 'real life' situation, and feeling the stress of actual decision-making that affects others, that they can truly appreciate the continual self-improvement learning curve which will make them an outstanding leader in the future. This opportunity has finally been created within the LDP, and will hopefully remain a deeply meaningful experience for this year's YLs.
Helen Turton - Chief Leader

You never know how far you can push yourself until you try but it's always further than you think.
Marianne Gelister (Extreme Arctic YE)

BSES Membership

BSES Expeditions celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2007 and we are looking to re-engage with as many past members as possible in order to help us celebrate and to continue the development of the Society. We are aware of many different grades and free years of membership that have evolved in the past, and are now asking all members to subscribe at the same rate so that we can continue to meet the costs of running the Society and keep providing you with members' benefits.

There are now just two types of membership at BSES:

Expedition Members - £15
For all those that have participated in a BSES Expedition.
Please note: All Young Explorers and Leaders who have successfully completed a BSES expedition as approved by the Chief Leader are entitled to one year's free membership of the Society. This free year runs until the Annual Gathering following their expedition.

Associate Members - £15
For supporters of BSES who have not taken part in an expedition.
