From Our Leaders:

It has been an honour to be entrusted with leadership of a BSES expedition and I am thankful to all members of the expedition for their hard work to make the expedition a success.
Pete Allison - Chief Leader

Being a Young Leader has given me the chance to become confident leading in an outdoor environment, and has inspired me to continue to search for opportunities to continue doing so.
Stephen Brooks - Young Leader

Looking back over the past three years of my involvement with the BSES Leadership Development Programme, I have been fortunate enough to meet a variety of young people, keen on leading others in the outdoors. It is only by leading others in a 'real life' situation, and feeling the stress of actual decision-making that affects others, that they can truly appreciate the continual self-improvement learning curve which will make them an outstanding leader in the future. This opportunity has finally been created within the LDP, and will hopefully remain a deeply meaningful experience for this year's YLs.
Helen Turton - Chief Leader

An exciting, meaningful opportunity
Michael

Leading with BSES

Applications for 2011 expedition leader positions are now being accepted.

At the heart of all BSES expeditions is a skilled team of scientists, mountain leaders, tropical experts, instructors, career expeditioners, medics and youth workers. The Society benefits from a high return leadership, including Young Explorers who have progressed on to leadership roles and specialist leaders with diverse professional and expeditionary experience.

For each expedition, the Chief Leader and Operations Manager assemble a leader team covering the necessary technical skills for the region and the given expedition’s field projects.  All leader positions are voluntary, which underpins an important aspect of the society’s expedition ethos.  Please note that demand for expedition opportunities is presently very high.  Positions will be filled on a competitive basis—applicants with strong and suitable qualifications will not necessarily be invited to a team.
